All Are Welcome

The Putnam County Senior Center, officially known as the Putnam County Council on the Aged and Aging, Inc., began in 1974 under the leadership of Sharon Hammond. The group rented the western section of our current building. Beginning with little funding, she began successful activities such as the Senior Citizen Kitchen Band and had a quilters’ group.

Throughout the past nearly 40 years the Center has expanded to include three buildings on the historic courthouse square that helps provide services to senior citizens and others throughout Putnam County. At the Center, the coffee pot is usually ready to enjoy . . .and jokes and laughter can be heard throughout the day.

The center exists to provide a welcoming environment for fellowship, socialization, and as a service to others in Putnam County. Here, many new friends become acquainted as we laugh and share time together. Additionally, it is gratifying to discover that whatever our age, we can still help others in our community through operating a Budget Retail Clothing and Furniture area for all ages of shoppers, providing food to those who sometimes need a little something extra, or transporting people to other counties for medical appointments.
